Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS) are schemes part funded by the central government with clear standardised norms applicable uniformly across States with a defined state government share. These apply to various development and welfare sectors. While these schemes are anchored in the respective Ministry at the Central level and department at the State level, implementation on the ground, especially where there is a large people or community interface, or when the scheme is mostly beneficiary oriented, requires the leadership and support of the local governments. In the Financial Year 2024-25 a total of 19 Centrally Sponsored Schemes are being implemented directly through LSGD. The local governments are also involved in a major way in the implementation of schemes like the ICDS, the Ayushman Bharat, Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan, and National Health Mission.
