The LIFE (Livelihood Inclusion and Financial Empowerment) represents an ambitious undertaking of the Local Self Government Department (LSGD) of the State to comprehensively address the housing needs of the homeless and landless poor. The mission has been running a campaign for identifying eligible households, converging resources of local governments, the State departmental programmes, and central resources for housing for the poor, to come out with a standardized housing programme that has culminated in the successful construction of 365531 houses, as of mid-December 2023. Notably, the project also attends to houses that had to be abandoned midway through earlier schemes. Through the ‘Manassodithiri Mannu’ campaign, LIFE has been able to solicit voluntary contribution of an extent of 2834.65 cents of land as of November 2023. Construction of prefabricated apartment complexes has also been an innovative step towards delivering comprehensive housing solutions.
