An internship opportunity is available for 10 people between the ages of 18 and 35 in connection with the Green Army under the Mayor of Thiruvananthapuram Municipality. Internships are available for periods of 3 months, 6 months, and 1 year. No stipend or honorarium is available. Certificates will be issued to those who successfully complete the internship. The Mayor made the announcement regarding the internship after the bicycle rally held in the morning to kick off the Green Army activities in 2021. Mayor Arya Rajendran led the bicycle rally that started at 6.30 am from the municipality courtyard. Health Standing Committee Chairperson P. Jamila Sreedharan flagged off. Bicycle Mayor Prakash P. Gopinath and Green Army activists participated in the rally organized by the Municipality Green Army in collaboration with Indus Cycling Embassy and Ride for Green. The Mayor presented a bicycle to Abhinaya, a class 8 student of Palkulangara NSS, who was selected this month as part of the Gift a Cycle scheme under which Indus Cycling Embassy provides free bicycles to economically backward students interested in cycling.
As part of this year’s Green Army activities, awareness campaigns will be organized on the importance of source waste management focusing on material recovery facilities within the city limits. A statistical review of the existing MRFs and a study report for improvement will be prepared. Volunteers interested in working with the Green Army can register as volunteers. As part of the promotion of bio-composter, which is the centerpiece of the source waste management project, a kitchen bin challenge will be organized. Prizes will be awarded to those who use kitchen bins in the best way. The competition will be organized in three categories: individuals, residence associations, and institutions. This year’s Green Army’s Green City Festival summer camp will be organized in May, adhering to COVID standards.
