District Collector Muhammad Y. Safirulla declared 36 Grama Panchayats, Panchayat Deputy Director’s Office, Panchayat Assistant Director’s Office and six Performance Audit Unit Offices in the district as good governance institutions as the first phase of the activities being implemented with the ultimate goal of making all Grama Panchayat offices, Panchayat Deputy Director’s Office, Panchayat Assistant Director’s Office and Performance Unit Offices in Ernakulam district good governance institutions. He also distributed certificates to the good governance institutions at the meeting held at the Panchayat Deputy Director’s Office Conference Hall. He said that the local bodies are performing their duties in a good and people-friendly manner, which is a success of decentralization of power. The District Collector also inaugurated the deployment of Sodhika software, which is a file tracking and file processing software, as part of declaring the Panchayat Deputy Director’s Office and the Asst. Director’s Office as paperless offices. The following gram panchayats received the Good Governance Award: Amballoor, Edakkattuvayal, Kumbalangi, Kadamakudy, Manidu, Mulanthuruthy, Mulavukad, Chendamangalam, Ezhikkara, Kuzhuppilly, Nayarambalam, Pallippuram, Chengamanadu, Kalady, Kunnukara, Mookkannoor, Nedumbassery, Thuravoor, Ashamannur, Keerampara, Matakuzha, Pallarimangalam, Pindimana, Pothanikkad, Varapetti, Churnikkara, Kizhakkambalam, Thiruvaniyoor, Valakam, Aoli, Ilanji, Kallurkkad, Pampakkuda, Ramamangalam, Thirumarady, and Vadavucode Puthankurish. The Gram Panchayat Presidents and Secretaries of 36 Gram Panchayats received the certificates of good governance from the District Collector. The awards were decided on the basis of the criteria of front office efficiency, conduct of employees towards the public, settlement of files related to welfare pension and building construction, maintaining the office and premises in a neat and clean manner, and collection of project tax. The good governance action plan includes making all the panchayats in the district paperless using Sodhika back office software, providing SMS alerts on public applications, online file tracking facility, keeping registers up to date, displaying boards up to date, achieving zero pending files by conducting file adalats, and making documents available to the public as needed.
