Suchitwa Mission
Suchitwa Mission is the Technical Support Institution in the Waste Management sector under the Local Self Government Department, Government of Kerala. It is responsible for providing technical and managerial support to the Local Self Governments of the State in matters of sanitation and solid and liquid waste management. The Mission is responsible for conceptualizing, action planning, conducting creative workshops, organizing training programmes, initiating sector-related studies, bringing out occasional papers, initiating action research, conducting monitoring and other activities in the Waste Management Sector. The Mission is also the Nodal agency for implementing Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban), Swachh Bharat Mission (Rural) and Communication and Capacity Development Unit (CCDU) in the State.
Main roles of SM in Waste Management:
- Function as Technical Support Group for Local Self Government Institutions (LSGIs) in the Waste Management sector
- Assist in achieving Total Sanitation coverage by LSGIs
- Providing policy, strategy, planning, implementation and monitoring support for Solid and Liquid Waste Management
- Organizing IEC campaigns and Capacity-building activities in the Sanitation and Waste Management sector
- Promotion of Green Protocol compliance by individuals, institutions and various tiers of Government.
