New Generation Watershed Development Program WDC-PMKSY 2.0 was launched in the year 2021-22 with new guidelines. The main objective of the scheme is to restore the ecological balance, by harnessing, conserving and developing our degraded natural resources such as soil, water, vegetative cover and natural springs. The outcomes envisaged in the programme are prevention of soil erosion, regeneration of natural vegetation, rain water harvesting, recharging of ground water and rejuvenation of springs. This enables multi cropping, and the introduction of diverse agro-based activities, which help to provide sustainable livelihoods to the people residing in the watershed area. Now the project envisages doubling farmer’s income by improving productivity and value addition of products through Farmer Producer Organizations. The Principal Directorate is the implementing agency for Watershed Development Component of PMKSY. The scheme has managed to restore — watersheds/mini watersheds.
