The nodal Ministries for implementation of the housing scheme, PMAY, are the Ministry of Rural Development for PMAY -G for rural (grameen) areas, and Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs for PMAY (U) for urban areas.

a. Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana- Grameen (PMAY-G)

The Indira Awas Yojana (IAY) scheme was revamped as Prime Ministers Awas Yojana Grameen (PMAY-G) from 1st April 2016. The minimum unit (house) size is 25 sq.mt including a dedicated area for hygienic cooking. The unit cost of Rs 1.2 lakh is to be shared between central and state governments in the ratio 60:40 (Rs.72, 000/- + Rs.48,000/-). The beneficiary selection for PMAY-G will be from SECC data. Under the Life Housing Scheme of the State, Rs. 4,00,000/- is being given to the general category and scheduled caste category and Rs. 6,00,000/- to the scheduled tribe families staying in Settlement Areas. The amount beyond Rs.1,20,000/- is paid by three-tier panchayats in the ratio 25:35:40(GP:BP:DP) and SC/ST development departments. Assistance is also provided to the landless to procure land for housing. In some cases high rise housing complexes have been funded through LIFE. These are all additionalities undertaken by the State.

b. Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana – Urban (PMAY-U)

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) Mission launched on 25th June 2015. The Mission provides Central Assistance to the implementing agencies through States/Union Territories (UTs) and Central Nodal Agencies (CNAs) for providing houses to all eligible families/ beneficiaries against the estimated demand for houses for about 1.12 cr. In urban areas too this scheme is integrated with the LIFE Mission, which provides additional funding for housing. The nodal agency in the State for coordinating PMAY(U) is Kudumbashree Mission.
