National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP)
The National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP) is a social security net intervention coordinated by the Ministry of Rural Development. The program aims to ensure a basic level of financial support to vulnerable and marginalized sections of society, including the elderly, widows, disabled individuals and bereaved families on death of primary bread winner, belonging to BPL households. It extends to urban households too. The NSAP schemes are:
- Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme (IGNOAPS)
- Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme (IGNWPS)
- Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Scheme (IGNDPS)
While the rate of NSAP ranges between Rs 200 and Rs 500 per month, the State provides the social security pension at Rs 1600 per month for all categories (a top up ranging from Rs 1100 to Rs 1400 per pensioner). Additionally, the State provides two more types of pensions – namely Agricultural Labor Pension, and Pension for unmarried women above 50 years, at these rates.
NSAP services 6 lakh beneficiaries in the State. The remaining pensioners as identified by the State are serviced through State resources.
