Poverty Free LSG
A poverty-free Panchayat ensures social protection to prevent anyone from slipping back into poverty. It is a village where growth and prosperity lead to enhanced livelihoods for all. The eradication of poverty is a key focus, measured through India’s performance towards the Goal of No Poverty using indicators such as the Multidimensional Poverty Index, bank linkages to Self-Help Groups (SHGs), and coverage of social security pensions. The SDG Index Score for Goal 1 ranges between 32 and 86 for States and between 61 and 81 for Union Territories. Poverty is a multidimensional issue encompassing economic, social, gender, and other deprivations that affect health, education access, water and sanitation, and quality of life, increase vulnerability to disasters, and exacerbate inequalities, with women bearing the brunt of it.
