Jal Jeevan Mission
Jal Jeevan Mission is envisioned to provide safe and adequate drinking water through individual Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTC) by 2024 to all rural households. The Local Self Government Department (LSGD) plays a pivotal role in the successful implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission in Kerala.
LSGs provide part funding for the project, they are involved in site selection too, and their approval is needed for the projects to commence.. In case land is needed, the land is brought by the LSG. Road cutting is to be overseen by the LSGs. Once completed the O&M of the projects become the responsibility of LSGs. The active involvement includes creating awareness about the significance of safe drinking water, hygiene practices, and the imperative for community participation. The LSGD takes charge of monitoring the functioning of water supply systems within their respective jurisdictions. This involves ensuring regular maintenance of infrastructure, addressing technical issues and promptly coordinating with relevant authorities to resolve problems. As the bridge between the government and the local community, LSGs facilitate active community participation in decision-making processes related to water supply projects, ensuring that solutions align with the specific needs of the community.
