CHILD FRIENDLY LSG

Child-Friendly Local Governance is one of the SDG themes that local governments focus on achieving. Child Friendliness is more than just a concept; it’s a commitment to creating environments, policies, systems, and practices that prioritize and promote the well-being, development, and protection of children. It encompasses a holistic approach where buildings, institutions, public spaces, organizations, families, and individuals consistently consider and uphold the rights of children in all aspects of decision-making and action. Achieving child-friendliness entails a fundamental shift in mindset and behavior, where the rights of children are at the forefront of every thought and action. To truly embody child-friendliness, it is essential to adhere to four key principles. Firstly, avoiding discrimination ensures that every child, regardless of their background, circumstances, or characteristics, is treated with dignity and respect. Secondly, prioritizing the best interests of children means making decisions and implementing policies that safeguard and promote the overall well-being of children above all else. Thirdly, ensuring survival and development entails providing children with the necessary support, resources, and opportunities to thrive and reach their full potential. Finally, respecting children’s views involves actively listening to and involving children in matters that affect them, valuing their perspectives, and empowering them to participate in decisions that impact their lives. By embracing these principles, individuals and organizations can create environments where children feel safe, valued, and empowered to flourish.
